Proofreading is usually the last step in the writing/editing process, in which I carefully read through the document/manuscript to catch cosmetic problems e.g. typos, punctuation, and layout errors. I charge $0.008 AUD per word, however this cost varies according to the quality and complexity of the text. Copy-editing
Copy-editing (or line editing) involves working with the finer details of writing, namely mechanics (spelling, grammar, syntax) and continuity (tense, POV). I charge $0.03 AUD per word. This fee includes corrections/feedback via Microsoft Word track changes, basic explanations of objective changes, and two post-edit email exchanges clarifying any issues, if required. Please note, this fee varies according to the quality and complexity of the text. Substantive editing
Substantive editing involves sentence by sentence coaching to improve the mechanics, form and style of your writing. My detailed, objective suggestions via Microsoft Word track changes will help you keep your plot tight and details consistent, and will improve your style while maintaining your unique voice. Any points of concern can be discussed in greater detail via email. This stage of editing is best employed after your complete manuscript has been critiqued. The cost of a substantive edit varies according to the length and complexity of the manuscript, however is on average $30 AUD per thousand words (round up to the nearest 1,000).
